Presented by Rev. Jim Hargis, Spiritual Care Coordinator from Gateway Hospice

Join us as Jim Hargis from Gateway Hospice helps us understand and respond to the anxiety that seems common to the current reality we find ourselves in at this time. He will review the “top level” that is more cognitive in nature, meaning “what can I do to help myself,” and the “deeper level,” which deals with the realization that there are things I have no control over and coming to terms with that reality.

Artis Senior Living’s Support Group provides a place to connect with other caregivers who truly understand what you are going through. Please join us to get resources for your questions and needs.

Please Register By Monday, March 15th

Presented by Mary Underwood, Vice President of Memory Care Services, Artis Senior Living

People with dementia sometimes ask questions that caregivers struggle to answer. How much of the truth should I tell? If I am not truthful, am I lying to my loved one?

During this session, we will discuss what is happening in the brain of someone with dementia, and how to answer their difficult questions in a way that feels ethical.

Please Register By Tuesday, April 27th

A Song From the Past

My aunt had played piano beautifully, but for the past decade she wouldn’t touch the keys. Dementia limited her attention span, so getting her interested in anything has been challenging for herand for us. But Wayne, one of her Artis Life Enrichment Assistants, never gave up. Since she would never come over to the piano, Wayne decided to bring the piano to her! He rolled it over, started tapping the keys and spoke to her about her years of playing. Within minutes, she slowly began to play beautiful musicfrom memory! Everyone was astonished. Now she eagerly plays with another resident for audiences at Artis. Our family is overjoyed!
